CME Activity Application

Naval Medical Leader & Professional Development Command (NML&PDC) Office of Continuing Medical Education is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to sponsor CME credit hours for Navy Continuing Medical Education activities offered by Medical Treatment Facilities or other Navy commands. We follow the guidelines published by the ACCME.

The CME Department at NMPDC, under the direction of the U.S. Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED), serves as the central administrator for the Navy-wide Continuing Medical Education Program, and accomplishes this mission by sponsoring educational activities throughout the world. These CME activities include: specialized courses, that are limited to presentations on closely related topics in a single specialized area of interest and include workshops and conferences which are attended by physicians from a wide variety of assignments and locations; individual command-based educational activities, including ongoing lecture series at specific treatment facilities similar to grand rounds, tumor boards, morbidity and mortality conferences, journal clubs, and specialty lectures series; enduring materials for physician self-study, such as correspondence courses and computer-assisted educational materials. They serve to maintain, develop or increase the knowledge, skills, and professional performance and relationships that a physician uses to provide services for patients, the public, or the profession. These CME activities encompass the entire spectrum of Navy Medicine and are offered locally at various Navy commands worldwide. Thus resulting in a myriad of physicians acquiring a vast knowledge of continuing medical education and up-to-date medical practices.

NML&PDC invites CME activity directors/coordinators from as many of these facilities as possible to communicate with the NMPDC CME Department as needed to review the previous offerings, to discuss planning for the future and to undergo training in the elements of the essentials for CME. The NML&PDC CME Department, prior to sponsorship, reviews each CME offering for approval. In this way, a closely-knit organization is maintained despite huge geographic separations, and NML&PDC is able to take part in the planning of each meeting or seminar. Through continuing education, the U.S. Navy Medical Department is best able to accomplish its mission of maintaining the readiness of our nation's maritime forces.
