A native of Lancaster, Wisconsin, CAPT Ann “Annie” Case attended Winona State University, where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She joined the United States Navy through the Bachelor’s Degree Completion Program, and upon graduation, she was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy Nurse Corps. CAPT Case holds a Master’s Degree in Nursing/Clinical Nurse Specialist, minor in teaching, from Loma Linda University, California.
CAPT Case’s first duty station was at Naval Medical Center Oakland, California, where she was assigned to a post-surgical ward for eighteen months. She then completed a six-week Perioperative Nurse’s training program at Naval Hospital Charleston, SC. She reported to Oakland’s Main Operating Room, where she served as Charge Nurse, Urological Services. After just over a year, the facility began the reduction in services due to the Base Closure and Realignment Commission, and she was part of a once in a career lifetime opportunity to assist with the shutting down procedures for a major military treatment facility.
Her military tours as a leader in Perioperative Nursing led her to duty stations such as Naval Medical Center San Diego, California; U.S. Naval Hospital Keflavik, Iceland; U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa, Japan, where she deployed for three months with a Joint Special Operations Task Force to Southeast Asia; Naval Hospital Twenty-nine Palms, California; back to Naval Medical Center San Diego; U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka, Japan; and Naval Hospital Bremerton, Washington. While stationed at Naval Hospital Bremerton, she was also assigned as Department Head, Quality Management, and was afforded the unique opportunity to serve as Interim Executive Officer for five weeks. Upon promotion to Captain, she was assigned as Director for Nursing Services, U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka, Japan, where she additionally served as Interim Executive Officer for four months of her tour. In January 2018, she began her assignment at Executive Officer, U.S. Naval Hospital Guantanamo Bay, where she has led the activities of 10 Directors and 300 staff in a small, geographically isolated military treatment facility to support the care of 6,000 Naval Station residents, including the management of the U.S. military’s only Home Health program for 25 Cuban Exiles/Special Category Residents.
CAPT Case is a Master Trainer for Team STEPPS and a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt. She is a member of the Association of Nurse Leaders and has obtained certification as Nurse Executive-Board Certified
(NE-BC). In 2014, she completed JPME-1 credit through the U.S. Air Force Air Command and Staff College. CAPT Case’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Achievement Medal, and Military.
