PREVENTATIVE MEDICINE
 
MISSION
 
It is the mission of the Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune (NHCL) Preventive Medicine (PM) Department to execute measures intended to mitigate, prepare for, and respond to health risks resulting from potential environmental exposures, including communicable diseases and food/water-borne illnesses. Concept of Operations contains several functional arenas: Environmental Health; Disease Intervention and Epidemiology; Immunizations; and Infection Control.

FUNCTION
DESCRIPTION
Disease Intervention
Disease Intervention Division is to prevent the spread of disease and associated complications through surveillance activities, treatment, and counseling activities (i.e. sexually transmitted diseases, prevention of tuberculosis, H1N1, etc.)
Environmental Health
Assess health risks associated with exposure to physical, chemical, and biological factors external to a person and implement measures to reduce any associated illness. The EH Division will focus primarily on minimizing illness through enforcement of sanitation standards, including the inspection of food and water establishments, child care centers, gymnasium and pool facilities, barber shops, and other places where diseases may be spread.
Immunizations Division
The Immunizations Division will be responsible for the ordering, proper storage and handling, and distribution of vaccines. This will include the coordination of immunizations rodeos, planning and preparation for influenza vaccinations, and supply of vaccine to the operational forces aboard the Camp Lejeune complex.
Infection Control
Infection control incorporates detection, investigation, and reporting infections among hospital patients and staff personnel and identifies important infections and seeks to prevent health care-associated infections.
 
 
PREVENTATIVE MEDICINE CLINIC
 
The Preventive Medicine Clinic (PMC) is focused on controlling the spread of communicable disease through testing, treatment, and education. If you have been referred to the PMC, please abide by the following:

·         Bring a copy of your Health Record with a hardcopy SF-600 with appropriate SOAP (subjective, observation, assessment, plan) note and doctor’s/IDC’s signature and stamp.
·         Please DO NOT urinate past midnight the night prior to reporting to the clinic. It is imperative that the first morning void be collected in order to facilitate the screening of possible sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Environmental Health is responsible for providing employee Health Cards for base and contract food service workers.
If you need to obtain a health card, please complete the Health Card Questionnaire and bring it to Building 65.
Sanitation

One of the primary responsibilities of the Environmental Health (EH) Division is to protect the health of Marines and Sailors, their families, civilians, and retirees from food- and water-borne illnesses.
If you have concerns or questions about the sanitary conditions of any food, water, or support services (pools, barber shops, gyms, etc.) facility on MCB Camp Lejeune, please do not hesitate to contact the EH Division, Naval Hospital, Camp Lejeune.
