Residency Program
FAMILY MEDICINE RESIDENCY PROGRAM

FamMed1.jpg

Camp Lejeune Family Medicine Residency was established in 2003, and has graduated 62 Family Medicine Physicians to date. Our mission is to train physicians who are prepared to practice comprehensive Family Medicine. This is accomplished through a rigorous program that emphasizes quality patient care, research, pre-doctoral education, ABFM certification, and Navy Medical Corp Officer development. Achieving this will allow us to become the residency of choice for medical students, residents, and faculty.

The educational curriculum of our rotation schedule outlined below is supplemented by a weekly lecture block on Thursday afternoons. Lectures are prepared and provided primarily by the Family Medicine faculty and supplemented by various subspecialty faculty. Monthly Morbidity and Mortality reports as well as Journal Clubs are utilized to foster reflective practice, continuous improvement, and academic pursuit.

FAMILY MEDICINE-OBSTETRICS FELLOWSHIP

FamMed3.png Additionally we offer and run the only Family Medicine-Obstetrics Fellowship in the Navy, which has graduated three fellows to date. The purpose of this fellowship is to train Family Medicine Physicians to be competent in performing surgical obstetrics and manage high risk obstetric patients in the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. Our expectation is that graduates of this fellowship will be leaders in family medicine-obstetrics practice and become teachers at a Family Medicine Residency or augment Obstetric resources overseas.

Over the four years of fellowship our fellows have completed their year of training each with approximately 200 primary cesarean sections. They undergo additional potential training during the year in obstetric ultrasound, LEEP, colposcopy, and D&C.
