Ambulatory Procedure Unit (APU)

Population Served

An ambulatory procedure is a surgical procedure that enables a patient to be released the same day, after their procedure is completed. Specific procedures involving general surgery, gynecological, orthopedic, podiatric, and dental surgeries are performed. The APU has six rooms with a ten bed capacity. Care is provided for pediatric, adolescent and adult patients. Patients are admitted prior to a surgical procedure with the major goal being to maximize the efficient delivery of medical and nursing care, while minimizing the length of stay for the patient.
