HMCS(SS) Michael L. Miller 

Senior Chief Miller a native of Ohio enlisted in the Navy in January of 1989, attending Recruit Training in Great Lakes, IL. After graduating Basic training, he attended Hospital Corpsman Basic School in Great Lakes, IL from April 1989 through July 1989.

Senior Chief Miller started out as a Clinical Nuclear Medicine Technologist from 1990 until July 1996 and served at three hospitals in that specialty: Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA; Naval Hospital Okinawa, JA; and Naval Hospital Pensacola, FL. In August 1996, he chose to take on one of the most challenging jobs as a Hospital Corpsman, that of a Submarine Force Independent Duty Corpsman (IDC). Following successful completion of Basic Enlisted Submarine School in Groton, CT, he went on to attend Submarine IDC school in Groton, CT from September 1996 through October 1997. Following graduation from SUB IDC school, he reported aboard the USS PASADENA (SSN 752) in Pearl Harbor, HI in November 1997 and served aboard her as the Medical Department Representative until July 2001. In addition to the PASADENA, Senior Chief Miller has served in three more submarines: USS KAMEHAMEHA (SSN 642) DECON Crew from July 2001 to May 2002, USS ALASKA (SSBN 732)(GOLD) from June 2004 to December 2006, and USS ALASKA (SSBN 732)(BLUE) from May 2010 to June 2013, and two shore tours as a Sub IDC, one at Naval Hospital Bremerton, WA from May 2002 to May 2004 and one at the Naval Submarine Support Command (NSSC) Pearl Harbor, HI from January 2007 to April 2010.

Senior Chief Miller was advanced to the rank of Chief Petty Officer while serving on the USS ALASKA (SSBN 732)(GOLD) in September 2005 and selected to his current rank as Senior Chief Petty Officer while serving at NSSC Pearl Harbor, HI in 2009.

Senior Chief Miller has a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management from Trident University and is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy. His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (5 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (3 awards), and numerous other unit and campaign awards. He is qualified to wear the enlisted submarine dolphins, and the SSBN deterrent patrol pin (7 stars).
