- Thursdays - ½ Day
Consultative Services are available 24 hours per day, 365 days a year. Emergency surgical services are available through the Urgent Care Clinic during urgent care business hours. |

Common Diagnoses Include:
- Appendicitis
- Hernias
- Cancers: Breast, Colon
- Fibrocystic Breast Disease
- Gallbladder disease
- Gastrointestinal disease
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease
- Ulcer disease
- Anal problems
- Pilonidal cyst disease
- Skin lumps, moles, and cancers
- Wound care (burns, abscesses, pilonidal cysts)
Diagnostic Procedures:
- Colonoscopy
- Diagnostic Laparoscopy
- Flexible sigmoidoscopy
- Esophagus and stomach endoscopies (EGD)
- Needle aspirations (breast lumps/cysts, lymph nodes)
Common Surgical Procedures:
- Appendectomy (elective and emergent)
- Breast Surgery
- Cholecystectomy - removal of gallbladder (elective and emergent)
- Colon, Rectum, and Anus
- Hernias (umbilical, ventral, incisional, inguinal)
- Laparoscopic Surgery (appendectomy, cholecystectomy, ventral/umbilical/incisional)
- Skin and Muscle
- Damage control Laparotomy to stabilize trauma patients prior to transport if required
Minor Surgery:
- Biopsy of Skin Lesions
- Removal of Skin Lesions (moles, cysts)
- Hemorrhoid Banding
- Incision and Drainage of Abscesses
Services Not Provided
Some general surgical services are not provided at Naval Hospital Oak Harbor such as:
- Breast Reconstruction or Reduction
- Gastric Operations for Obesity
- Cardiac and Chest Surgery
- Some Advanced Laparoscopic Procedures
- Some Specialized General Surgical Procedures
- Elective surgery on patients who may require intensive care or respiratory therapy.

The General Surgical Department is a multidisciplinary staff. It consists of:
- Two Surgeons Board Certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care
- Two Navy Medical Corpsmen
- One Receptionist
One of the surgeons is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. |
