Our Offices are now located in the main hospital building along with the Mental Health and Social Services. We no longer provide Level 1 to 4 Alcohol treatments, however and we continue to provide outreach training to commands and organizations within our area, substance abuse or gambling screenings, and to conduct Early Intervention Alcohol Treatment (Level 0.5, e.g. Alcohol IMPACT) as needed. We also provide ongoing Continuing Care to individuals who have completed treatment to assist them in maintaining their goals for recovery

Our services are available to active duty personnel from various services as well as civilian employees, retired personnel, and military family members.

Request for Appointments:
To ensure consistency and a smooth flow of information between SARP and customer commands, appointments and treatment dates should be scheduled only by the following:

-Command DAPA
-Assistant Command DAPA
-Senior Medical Representative
-Naval Hospital Care Provider
-Command Master Chief
-Executive Officer, or Commanding Officer.

This ensures that the command is aware of a person's need for substance abuse screening and any recommendations made. In addition, the SARP will accept self-referrals.

Referral Information:
The service member must have, 1. service record, 2. health record, and 3. DAPA Screening Referral Forms upon arrival for the appointment unless the DAPA delivered them previously (or unless the referral was made by a Naval Hospital Care Provider). If any of the aforementioned documents are not available, the command will be contacted in order to obtain the necessary documents ASAP. The patient may be returned to the command without completing the scheduled appointment at the discretion of the SARP Program Director and a "No Show" letter will be generated.

Member's diagnosis and treatment:   After the individual has been screened by the SARP counselor and the License Independent Practitioner (LIP) and a diagnosis of Substance/Alcohol Abuse or Substance/Alcohol Dependence has been established, a letter is generated to communicate the service member's Commanding Officer of the screening outcome and treatment recommendation. Depending upon that recommendation, the individual's command DAPA schedules treatment entry for the member into a SARP facility which offers the requested treatment. The majority of the service members screened at SARP Rota and needing Level 1-4 Substance Rehabilitation Treatment attend SARP Norfolk, VA program; although commands are free to choose the facility which they deem most appropriate and convenient. When scheduling entry into treatment, please pay attention and follow each individual facility's instructions, since they vary from facility to facility.
