Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program

The Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program (SARP) of the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth provides screening, preventive, and Dual Diagnosis rehabilitative services for substance abuse / dependence. We offer IMPACT (level .5), Level 1 treatment, Level 2 Intensive Outpatient, Level 3 Dual Diagnosis Residential treatment, and Continuing Care. All programs meet criteria specified by local agencies such as the Virginia Safety Action Program (VASAP) and local courts.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Effective immediately SARP Level 2 and 3 patients will be participating in a commencement ceremony on Tuesdays at 1045. Families and commands are encouraged to attend, and all service members need to bring their service specific dress uniform as follows:

Appropriate seasonal dress uniform (dress blues/whites). All uniforms require ribbons not medals.

Dependents may bring a suit or appropriate business attire.

TOBACCO FREE

Patients are prohibited from using all forms of tobacco/nicotine (e.g., smoking, dipping, chewing, etc.) and "vaping." This policy includes all levels of SARP treatment, including IMPACT, Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3. Patients will be able to use nicotine replacements such as the nicotine patch or nicotine lozenges while enrolled at SARP. SARP's preference is to have the patient started on nicotine replacement prior to beginning treatment by his or her medical department. However, the patient can start nicotine replacement treatment once reporting to SARP. Patients will sign an agreement to adhere to the tobacco free policy upon treatment admission. Violators are subject to discharge from program.
