Congratulations Mom and Dad!
Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and its Branch Medical Clinics have designed an innovative and interactive prenatal healthcare and education program for you and your family, as you travel the journey of parenthood. Whether this is your first baby or whether you have delivered many children, each pregnancy brings its own set of challenges, joys and nuances. NMCP is committed to providing you and your family emotional and educational support along the way.
A prenatal resource booklet called “Pregnancy and Childbirth: A Goal Oriented Guide to Prenatal Care”, called the “Purple Book”, is also available at your OB Clinic or via, this web site. You may download it. This booklet will guide you each step of the way through your pregnancy.
We provide "State of the Art" Obstetrical care to Active duty and TRICARE Prime beneficiaries at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and at branch medical clinics. We set our standard of care with the latest guidelines from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). Our clinics are staffed with OB/GYN doctors, Certified Nurse Midwives (CNM), and Nurse Practitioners (NP).
The prenatal education program consists of classroom prenatal classes regarding preparing for childbirth, baby care, breastfeeding, infant massage, and sibling preparation; hospital tours; website resources including pediatric recalls; a weekly, parenting email from 7 weeks of pregnancy to three years of the babies life; and private educational sessions for families experiencing challenging pregnancy or newborn complications.
Make yourself at home on this website and explore each category. If you have not done so, sign up for the weekly, parenting emails on the link above. Having a baby is a very interesting and exciting life experience and it is fun to learn how you and the baby will grow and change throughout pregnancy. The emails were purchased specifically by TRICARE and may be your very first baby gift for the road ahead. If you have questions regarding this website or the email service, please contact the Perinatal Educator at 757-953-4178.
