Location: Outpatient Phlebotomy CHCC, 1st Floor Main laboratory CHCC, 1st Floor
Hours of Operation: The laboratory is staffed 24 hours a day.
Regular duty hours with full staff are Monday through Friday, 0630-1700, except on holidays.
Outpatient phlebotomy is performed in the Laboratory’s outpatient Phlebotomy Branch located on the first floor of the Charette Health Care Center, 0630-1700, Monday-Friday, closed weekends and holidays.
A limited test menu is available for requests from TRICARE Extra and TRICARE Standard (CHAMPUS) patients.
Fine needle aspirate collection is available in the main laboratory on a walk-in basis Monday through Friday, 0900-1600.
Although the laboratory cannot directly give test results to patients, the laboratory can make immediate arrangements to send the test results to their physician electronically or by fax.

Laboratory Medicine Department
Mission: The Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP) Laboratory will provide quality support to facilitate operational readiness, patient management, research, training and wellness while providing an environment conducive to good morale.
Vision: We are the Department of Defense’s premier laboratory. We provide the best quality services using the most up to date knowledge and technology to meet the operational readiness, education and health care needs of the community.

Scope of Services: Our Laboratory provides a comprehensive range of anatomic pathology, blood bank, and clinical pathology services to all eligible beneficiaries. We serve as a center of excellence and referral facility for Laboratory Medicine.
The Laboratory is staffed 24/7 to provide services which meet patient care requirements.
Our Blood Bank and Donor Center collects and manufactures all the blood components necessary to support patient care at NMCP, as well as, supporting the Navy Blood Program and Armed Services Blood Program mission requirements.
The Laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), and is licensed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). |
