To improve operational readiness, promote healthy lifestyles and treat problems resulting from alcohol and substance abuse. The SARP utilizes a multidisciplinary approach for the assessment and treatment of substance related problems, and to meet the individual needs of active duty personnel, family members and retirees.

The Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program (SARP) of the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth provides screening, preventive and rehabilitative services for substance abuse/dependence. We offer IMPACT level .5 education, a 20 hour course over three days; Level I treatment; Level II Intensive Outpatient and Level III residential treatment. All of our programs meet criteria specified by local agencies such as the Virginia Safety Action Program (VASAP) and local courts.
