Public Health and Surveillance
The Threat Assessment Department helps the Navy and Marine Corps maintain readiness and avoid preventable illness at home and on deployment. NEPMU-6 studies health risks in Asia and the Pacific and pass that information back to you and your command in the form of preventive measures you can use to avoid illness. Our services include the following:
- Stool and blood parasite microscopy
- Viral pathogen molecular testing (e.g. bioterror agents, Influenza, Norovirus)
- Culture based bacterial ID and antibiotic susceptibility testing
The laboratory can acquire, as needed, specialized diagnostics not normally available in the United States (e.g., Dengue virus). The laboratory is also prepared to expedite the acquisition, packaging and shipping of appropriate specimens to higher level military and civilian reference laboratories as appropriate.
