BE: Make 2016 Your Healthiest Year Yet!

A new year is a great time to set health goals. Here are some of our favorite tips on setting healthy habits!

Set Three Goals per Month

Focus on just three goals for the month that are attainable and sustainable. This is important for motivation and behavior change. After month one, these new habits should be easy to continue with, and you’ll be ready to take on three new habits the next month!

Be Realistic

A common mistake when creating health goals is to be overly ambitious. Small daily steps toward a healthier you are more likely to stick long-term. Choose three goals for the month that you will realistically be able to complete!

Make it Specific and Measurable

If your goal is to drink more water, state the goal as, “drink eight glasses of water per day.” If you are ready to exercise more, state the goal as, “exercise for 45 minutes per day for five days of the week.”

Get Support

One of the best ways to maintain your new healthy habits is to build a support system. If you have a family member, friend, or co-worker who is also interested being healthy, buddy up! Share your goals, workouts, healthy meals and challenges.

Track Your Progress

Plan for success by writing your goals down. Map out time to achieve those goals each week. Keep your goals somewhere visible to remind you of them. Track your progress each week in a way that will motivate you!

Create Healthy Rewards!

Once you’ve completed your goals each month, celebrate in a healthy way! Plan a day trip to try something active, or buy new workout gear. Choose an activity that you truly enjoy and invite the people in your life supporting your healthy changes.
