Tobacco Cessation (open to all eligible beneficiaries)

If you’d like to kick your tobacco habit, we’re here to help you learn to cope with the challenges of quitting tobacco. Our behavior-modification–based program consists of group support and the use of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT).

At NMCSD, we have three different programs to help you kick the habit:

  • Behavior Modification and Pharmacotherapy Intervention (NRT)
    • o This two-session course is offered once a month (Monday, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.)

Healthy Weigh (open to all eligible beneficiaries)

Learn to choose a healthy diet, reduce fat and cholesterol intake, understand food labels, overcome exercise hurdles, and make lifestyle changes to improve your health.

  • Mondays, 10-11:30 a.m./Wednesdays, 4-5:30 p.m.

New Healthy Beginnings (open to all eligible beneficiaries)

This unique and comprehensive weight loss program addresses nutrition choices, eating and exercise patterns, and behavioral and healthy lifestyle changes to promote health and well-being. Prescription weight loss medication may be provided in select cases. During this program, you will learn from a dietitian, exercise physiologist, medical provider, and a behavioral health specialist how to live a healthier life by increasing exercise and changing your food choices.

  • 4th Monday of each month, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

  • Prerequisite: all participants must take the Healthy Weigh or ShipShape class before enrolling

ShipShape (open to active duty only)

ShipShape is an eight-week program originally designed by the Navy as a weight loss program for Sailors to support readiness. ShipShape promotes permanent lifestyle improvements for nutrition, physical fitness, and psychological focus. This program is highly recommended for Sailors who have failed or are in jeopardy of failing their BCA standards or for those who just want to live a healthier lifestyle. Classes are limited in size, so please reserve your spot in advance.
