MOVE: PHYSICAL ACTIVITY CLASSES

Senior Yoga (open to all eligible beneficiaries ages 50 and older)

Certified yoga instructors from Silver Age Yoga teach this program. Participants are encouraged to attend a minimum of eight weeks to fully realize the benefits of yoga.

Fit Mothers Yoga (open to active duty females)

This health and fitness yoga group class supports active duty mothers during pregnancy and immediately following delivery.

Swimming for Beginners (open to all eligible beneficiaries)

This is a 60-minute session is aimed to give beginning swimmers a good foundation. Class sizes are typically small and the instructor will work with swimmers to develop a better feel for the water, improve their water safety awareness, and learn different strokes.

Swim Practice

This program offers the opportunity to learn or refine your swimming skills and stroke technique, increase cardiovascular capacity, and improve your overall well-being. This class meets at the NMCSD, MWR pool located at Bldg. 12 and is offered five days a week.

  • Mondays, 1:30-2:30 p.m./Wednesdays, noon-1 p.m./Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, 6-7 a.m.

With regular practice, yoga can help you decrease stress and achieve mental clarity, while stretching and strengthening your joints and muscles, and improving your overall health.

Tai Chi (open to all eligible beneficiaries)

This 45-minute class will guide you through the gentle flowing movements of Tai Chi. The instructor explains and demonstrates the underlying Tai Chi techniques, body mechanics at work, and information about body alignment, joints, and muscle relaxation.

Salsa Dance Class (open only to Wounded, Ill, and Injured)

Get moving as a dance instructor teaches salsa moves while helping the group focus on socialization skills, gentle physical contact, body awareness, coordination, and progressive memory skills — all of which are crucial to the recovery and healing work of PTSD and TBI injuries. The class offers opportunities trips to off base dance clubs and performances.
