Master Chief (fmf/SW/AW) JOE T. MURPHY

Master Chief Hospital Corpsman Joe T. Murphy is a native of Gary Indiana. He enlisted in the United States Navy in January 1991. He then reported for both basic training at Recruit Training Command and Naval Hospital Corpsman School in San Diego, California.

Upon graduating, he reported for duty at Naval Hospital Portsmouth, Virginia where he worked on the neurosurgical ward until transferring.

In January 1993 as a Hospitalman, he reported to Field Medical Service School and then to 2d Marine Division February 1993. During this tour he was stationed at 3rd Battalion 6th Marines where he deployed in support of OPERATION RESTORE HOPE in Somalia and OPERATION UPHOLD DEMOCRACY in Haiti. He was stationed at 6th Marine Regiment and then 2nd Battalion 2nd Marines where he deployed in support of OPERATION JOINT ENDEAVOR in Bosnia and OPERATION ASSURED RESPONSE in Liberia, Africa.

In December 1996 as a Hospital Corpsman Second Class, he reported to 4th Field Service Support Group, 4th Medical Logistics Company and he supported numerous Marine Forces Reserves training exercises.

In January 2000 as a Hospital Corpsman First Class, he reported to 2d Marine Division. During this tour he was stationed at 3rd Battalion 10th Marines, 3rd Battalion 6th Marines where he deployed in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM in Kandahar, Afghanistan and then 6th Marine Regiment.

In February 2003 as a Chief Hospital Corpsman, he attended Basic Instructor Training and then Naval Hospital Corpsman School Great Lakes, Illinois as an instructor in March 2003.

In April 2006 as a Chief Hospital Corpsman, he reported to 2d Marine Division. During this tour he was stationed with 2d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion where he deployed in support of IRAQI FREEDOM Rawah, Iraq and then 1st Battalion 6th Marines where he deployed in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM in Helmand Province and Kandahar, Afghanistan.

In February 2009 as a Chief Hospital Corpsman, he reported to Recruit Division Commander School and then Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Illinois as a Recruit Division Commander, Medical Liaison and Ship Leading Chief Petty Officer.

In October 2013 as a Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman, he reported to the Senior Enlisted Academy and then the USS NEW YORK LPD 21 in December 2013 as the Health Service Department Leading Chief Petty Officer. In October 2016 as a Master Chief Hospital Corpsman, he reported to Naval Medical Center San Diego as the Directorate for Branch Clinics Senior Enlisted Leader. His decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (6 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards); Combat Action Ribbon and various unit and campaign awards.
