SAN DIEGO - Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) unveiled upgrades to its Internal Medicine clinic during a ribbon cutting ceremony Jan. 16.
More than 50 rooms in the clinic were renovated to include new furniture, paint, decorations and other key factors to improve patient care to beneficiaries.
The renovation project was given a one-year deadline but was completed ahead of schedule in 10 months with a budget of $2.1 million.
Internal Medicine's Nurse Manager Rowena Casiano explained the purpose of the renovations.
"We want to improve healthcare access, continuity and comfort to produce a positive experience, not only for patients, but for staff as well . the newly renovated department will allow staff to work with their [Medical Home Port] teams more efficiently," she said.
Medical Home Port is a new model of patient-centered care designed to meet patients' primary health and wellness needs, by assigning beneficiaries into Medical Home Port teams which are each comprised of doctors, nurses, hospital corpsmen, case managers and other providers.
NMCSD's Internal Medicine department is comprised of approximately 85 staff who treat up to 125 patients daily.
