For over 70 years, Naval Medical Center San Diego's Graduate Medical Education (NMCSD-GME) Department has been preparing physicians with the knowledge, skills and expertise necessary to provide outstanding care to its patients. GME's mission is to: improve healthcare, patient safety and operational readiness by: assessing and advancing the quality of residency education and faculty development; and graduating competent independent practitioners who demonstrate proficiency in the ACGME General Competencies and are ready to lead and serve in the operational environment.

NMCSD is fully accredited by the Joint Commission. Additionally, each program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for General Medical Education (ACGME). Our Dental program is fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), the Psychology program has full accreditation from the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Pharmacy Program is fully accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHSP).
