WHAT IS A PRIMARY CARE MANAGER?

Your Primary Care Manager (PCM) is a medical doctor who can evaluate, diagnose, treat or refer to best help you with any medical or emotional condition. Your PCM can take care of the vast majority of your medical needs and concerns. But, he/she can also easily coordinate more complicated care across medical subspecialties.

Your PCM can treat both acute and chronic illnesses and provide you with preventive care and health education. You can see your PCM if you’re struggling with a range of illnesses or injuries such as the common flu, shingles, bowel problems, backache, high blood pressure, diabetes, and depression; expect to be helped by a highly knowledgeable and skilled professional. Your PCM will be able to advise on the needs of a baby with a fever, an older adult struggling with memory loss or other medical and psychological problems that occur at any age.

If you develop a serious condition, your PCM may refer you to a specialist. A specialist is a physician who has additional training and expertise in a specific area of medicine (e.g., urology, cardiology, oncology, neurology).
