 Nurse Corps
 
   The Nurse Corps Career Planner is a member of the Navy Nurse Corps Office at the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED).  The Career Planner is the focal point for disseminating Nurse Corps career and leadership development information through email, milSuite, tele-conferences, and lectures.  The Career Planner provides career consultation and guidance to individuals, groups, and commands regarding career management and progression.   S/he serves as Senior Member of the Nurse Corps Professional Review Board, Champion of the Nurse Corps Career Development Program, Champion of the Nurse Residency Program, and BUMED Uplink for the Professional Development Strategic Objective.  In addition, the Career Planner manages Nurse Corps quotas for various courses and coordinates the Military Health System Nursing Leadership Excellence Awards, the RADM Hall Award for Nursing Publication, and the RADM Niemyer Award for Evidence-Based Practice.  

Corps Chief objectives/goals for the community:   The Navy Nursing Professional Practice Model communicates the strategic vision and provides a framework for professional practice for all members of the Navy nursing team.  The Model symbolizes the unity of the nursing team and illustrates the three primary domains of Operational Readiness/Jointness, Professional Development, and Transformational Leadership.

Services that you as the Career Planner provide that may not be well known/understood/advertised in the community:  Record review, mentorship, point of contact for the Health Professions Loan Repayment Program, career development briefs, coordinator for the annual Senior Nurse Executive Orientation

Career development or specialization opportunities available within the community:  Various opportunities exist, including medical treatment facility positions in the in- or out-patient area; Duty Under Instruction; Specialty and Assistant Specialty Leader; Selection Board member or recorder; and non-traditional assignments such as operational assignments, White House Nurse, Executive Assistant, Recruiter, Instructor, and Headquarters Staff.  These are only examples, not an exhaustive list.
