Chief Hospital Corpsman Christopher V. Caro was born on March 10, 1985 in Staten Island, NY. He enlisted into the United States Navy on August 21, 2003. His training includes nine weeks at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, IL followed by 14 weeks of Hospital Corpsman “A” School where he graduated with honors in March 2004. Immediately after “A” school he attended Field Medical Service School in Camp Pendleton, CA until July 2004.
He reported to his first duty assignment with 3rd Medical Battalion, Okinawa Japan in July 2004 where he was assigned to administrative duties in S-1. While on board he completed one humanitarian aid mission in support of Tsunami Relief in 2004.
After his first tour, he enrolled in the Tri-Service Optician School located in Yorktown, VA earning the Navy Enlisted Classification (NEC) 8463 in December 2005.
In January 2006, he reported to Naval Branch Health Clinic Kings Bay, GA where he provided clinical eye care services for the entire submarine base as well as four trident submarines. HM1 Caro then terminated shore duty in January 2009 to report to the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN69), where he completed two-7 month deployments from 2009-2010. While on board, he was assigned duties as Departmental Work Center Supervisor and Zone Manager, and flight deck corpsman.
In January 2012, he attended Journeyman Instructor Training (JIT), where he was awarded the NEC 9502. Reporting on board Naval Ophthalmic Support and Training Activity (NOSTRA) in February 2012, he currently serves as one of four active duty Navy Instructors.
HMC Caro’s awards and qualifications include Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal (four awards), Humanitarian Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist, Fleet Marine Force, and Master Training Specialist. In addition, he also holds certifications from the American Board of Opticianry, as well as in Homeland Security Level III, Disaster Preparedness, and Sensitive Security Information.
