Nutrition Management

 

The Nutrition Management Department consists of the Clinical Nutrition Division as well as the Food Service Division. We are devoted to supporting Active Duty, Retirees and Family Members by providing medical nutrition therapy as well as healthy meals for Naval Hospital Pensacola personnel.
 
 
Mission:
To provide timely, evidence-based nutritional care to Active Duty, Retirees and Family Members as well as participate in health promotion, deployment health and other fleet support activities to ensure military member’s readiness to deploy.
 
Vision: 
Continually strive to expand and improve nutritional services to anticipate our customer needs, meet their expectations and improve their health outcomes.
 
Appointments:    Individual appointments are available to address a variety of nutrition-related diagnosis such as, but not limited to, food allergies/intolerances, gastrointestinal disorders, pediatric nutrition, special needs across the lifespan and more. 
Appointments: Open to all Active Duty, Retirees and Family Members. A consult/referral is required to be seen in the Nutrition Clinic. Appointments can be scheduled by calling Central Appointments at 505-7171.

Services Offered


Adult weight Management Class:
  For individuals, who are overweight, desire to maintain their weight or are simply interested in learning the basic nutrition concepts.  You will learn about the Food Guide Pyramid, proper portion sizes, the importance of meal spacing, behavior modification and how to read food labels.  Calories required will be determined to assist individuals in reaching their weight goals.  Classes are offered twice a month. 
 
Diabetes Class:  For individuals with diabetes or pre-diabetes.   You will learn the relationship between diet and exercise and how these factors affect blood glucose levels.  Carbohydrate counting will be thoroughly reviewed in addition to behavior modification to promote normal glucose levels and achieve healthy weight goals.  Classes are offered twice a month. 
 
Cholesterol Class:  For individuals who have high cholesterol or triglycerides with or without high blood pressure (also known as hypertension).  You will learn about the different types of fats (mono, poly, saturated and trans fats) as well as the importance of fiber in managing cholesterol levels.   Weight management and lifestyle modifications to include the effects of activity and tobacco will also be reviewed.  Classes offered twice a month.
