The Entomology (ENTO) Division conducts identification of insects, rodents, parasites of medical importance (disease vectors) and provides recommendations for the implementation of appropriate control measures.  Because mosquitoes are an important disease vector, we perform comprehensive mosquito surveillance during peak activity season throughout the Pensacola Naval Complex.  We trap, identify, and submit mosquito specimens for arboviral (West Nile virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus) testing under a cooperative agreement with a U. S. Army Laboratory.  We determine when appropriate Integrated Pest Management procedures for control should be implemented based on surveillance and pesticide use laws.

Ship Sanitation Control Exemption Certification (SSCEC) Inspections of U.S. Military, NOAA, and MSC vessels are available upon request. Please contact (850) 452-6783 for more information or to schedule an inspection.
