We here at Naval Hospital Pensacola (NHP) are committed to developing excellent clinical physicians who provide outstanding medical care to our beneficiaries. To that end, we would formally like to invite you to be part of the team.
There are many attributes that make NHP an outstanding Family Medicine residency program. Both our staff and residents strive for academic excellence. Our In-training scores have consistently been in the top half of the nation, and among the top composite scores for Navy Family Medicine residencies. Consistent resident involvement in leadership and research in national organizations such as the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Uniformed Services Academy of Family Physicians makes our residency program one of the most well-known and recognized programs in the country.
Underlying these accolades is a dedicated staff that comes to NHP with an enthusiasm for education, evidenced by the multi-specialty participation and support for our residency program at morning report. Staff from every major specialty as well as our support staff attend morning report and provide constructive and expert feedback.
Our residency program is the most experienced in the Navy in regards to the Patient-centered Medical Home (PCMH), also known as Navy Medical Home Port. Becoming the first Navy Family Medicine residency to begin implementation of Medical Home Port in 2009, Naval Hospital Pensacola is a PCMH leader and has achieved Level 3 National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) recognition, the highest level achievable for PCMH. Our staff is highly knowledgeable in this model of care and supportive of its ability to provide coordinated and effective patient-centered care.
We strive to provide residents with state of the art medical resources with facilities to provide full scope Family Medicine. The labor and delivery unit has been completely remodeled with new labor/delivery/recovery/post-partum rooms. Each resident has their own personal computer with broadband web access to command supported sites such as MD Consult, Up-to-Date, Ovid, E-medicine. These resources are available at all providers in the hospital, bringing state of the art information to the medical students and residents at the point of care. In short, NHP has the necessary tools to train top notch residents and medical students.
As if this were not reason enough, did we mention Pensacola just happens to have some of the nicest beaches on this planet? Sailing, boating, skiing, diving, fishing and surfing are all readily available. Pensacola is truly amazing and combines the attributes of both a small and large town. Residents can take advantage of the low cost housing and lifestyle, with minimal traffic and commutes. On the other hand, Pensacola’s tourism allows for excellent restaurants, shows, and festivals throughout the year. Not to mention Orlando, New Orleans, and Biloxi are all easily drivable for a getaway.
