Health Focus on...

Help Prevent the FLU!

Influenza A (H1N1) - There are confirmed cases on Guam.  Due to travelers coming into Guam from around the world there is a risk of being exposed to this virus.  Below you will find a few tips that will limit the transmission of Influenza A H1N1.

Influenza A H1N1 Preventive Measures:

  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze (proper cough etiquette).
  • If you don't have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve or elbow, not your hands.
  • Put your used tissue in the waste basket.
  • Clean your hands after coughing or sneezing.
  • Wash with soap and water or clean with alcohol-based hand cleaner.  Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

Viruses and germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with the virus or germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose or mouth.  Avoid close contact with people who are sick.  When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.  If you develop a high fever and other moderate respiratory symptoms (cough, chest pain, difficulty breathing, significant muscle aches) please contact your primary care manager.  If possible, stay home from work, school and errands when you are sick.  You will help prevent others from catching your illness.

Keeping healthy is no accident.  Do your part to keep yourself, your family, friends and coworkers from getting sick!
