Our strength lies in a union of research, teaching, and excellent patient care.

Naval Medical Forces Pacific (NMFP) is Navy Medicine's health care system in the Western Pacific, providing medical care to more than 675,000 beneficiaries. Primary, specialty and hospital-based care services are provided at all NMFP military treatment facilities (MTF).

NMFP also maintains cognizance over Navy Medicine's research and development enterprise with research centers and units located throughout the U.S., Asia Pacific, Africa, and South America.

The region is headquartered at Naval Base San Diego, with MTFs and dental centers on the northern and southern West Coast, in Hawaii,

 Japan, and Guam.

In August 2005, Navy Medicine implemented a realignment effort to better direct the collective shore-based assets of Navy Medicine to

maintain readiness and deliver the highest quality care in the most cost effective manner.

This effort resulted in the standing up of four Echelon 3 (flag level) commands—Navy Medicine West, Navy Medicine East, Navy

Medicine National Capital Area, and Navy Medicine Support Command. Subordinate commands under Navy Medicine West include all

Navy MTFs and dental centers on the West Coast and in Hawaii, Japan, and Guam.

In August 2015, NMFP assumed cognizance over the U.S. Navy research and development enterprise, which is headquartered in the Silver

Spring, Maryland, at the Naval Medical Research Center.
