Team Physician Opportunities
The Sports Medicine fellows have team physician responsibility at Palomar College. Each fellow additionally serves as a high school football team physician at Carlsbad High School and La Costa Canyon High School.

Didactics
In cooperation with the University of San Diego (UCSD) Sports Medicine and the Alvarado Sports and Family Medicine Fellowship programs, each week there are approximately four hours of lectures and small group discussions. The lectures are augmented by an anatomy curriculum. The fellows receive formal instruction in musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound, including integration into the SMART clinic atmosphere. Fellows can attend the ACSM Advanced Team Physician Course, where they get an intense exposure to advanced topics in sports medicine. ACSM, AMSSM, or AOASSM are other possible annual meetings.

Scholarly Activities and Faculty Development
The fellows have weekly didactic sessions and meet periodically with a research facilitator. Fellows have opportunities to be involved in a new or ongoing research project. Most oftent they find and submit a case report for either a regional or national meeting. Fellows also fine-tune their teaching skills by instructing medical students, residents, and other professionals both at the Naval Hospital and UCSD.

Other Training and Sports Coverage Events
Multiple other events give the fellows excellent training opportunities, including: San Diego "Rock & Roll" Marathon, Marine Corps Trials (Wounded Warior Games), Oceanside 1/2 Ironman, Cal-State Games, Camp Pendleton Race Series, Heat Tolerance Test Progam (Warfighter Performance Dept), as well as many other local and regional events. Other unique opportunities may be arranged individually.
