A native of Lancaster, Wisconsin, CAPT Case attended Winona State University, where she received her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing. She joined the United States Navy under the Bachelor’s Degree Completion Program and upon graduation, was commissioned as an Ensign in the Navy Nurse Corps. CAPT Case holds a Master’s Degree in Nursing/Clinical Nurse Specialist, minor in teaching, from Loma Linda University.
CAPT Case’s first duty station was at Navy Medical Center Oakland, CA where she was assigned to a post-surgical ward for 18 months. She then completed a six-week perioperative nurse training program at NH Charleston, SC, and reported back to Oakland’s Main Operating Room where she served as charge nurse, Urological Services. After just over a year, the facility began a reduction in services due to the Base Closure and Realignment Commission. Case assisted with closure procedures for a major military treatment facility.
Tours of duty as a leader in Perioperative Nursing led to duty stations such as NMC San Diego; United States Naval Hospital Keflavik, Iceland; USNH Okinawa, Japan, where she deployed for three months with a Joint Special Operations Task Force to Southeast Asia; Naval Hospital Twentynine Palms; back to NMC San Diego; USNH Yokosuka, Japan; and NH Bremerton. While stationed at NH Bremerton, she was also assigned as department head, Quality Management and also served as Interim Executive Officer for five weeks. She was then assigned as Director for Nursing Services, USNH Yokosuka, Japan, where she additionally served as Interim Executive Officer for four months of her tour.
CAPT Case is a master trainer for TeamSTEPPS and a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt. She is a member of the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses, and she has participated in multiple committees with the Competency and Credentialing Institute to assist in various perioperative nurse certification exams, as well as item review committees for two new specialty certification exams. She has also completed Joint Professional Military Experience, phase one credit through the USAF Air Command and Staff College.
Captain Case’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Achievement Medal, and Meritorious Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
