NEPMU-2's Microbiology Laboratory helps the Navy and Marine Corps by providing high quality diagnostic capabilities, consulting, teaching and investigative services.

NEPMU-2's accredited Microbiology Laboratory provides support for the Navy and Marine Corps. Standard testing procedures include microscopy, bacterial culture, and PCR-based molecular diagnostic techniques ensure reliable results. Additional testing is available to augment existing capabilities on an as needed basis. We can provide limited laboratory services in deployed settings.

Outbreak or Contact Investigations
Get help In the event of a suspected or confirmed infectious disease outbreak. Services include epidemiologic investigations, outbreak mitigation plans, risk communication and reporting assistance.
Detection of Bioterrorism Agents
Provide testing for biowarfare agents in a deployed setting. We can also expedite the acquisition, packaging and shipping of appropriate specimens to higher level laboratories INCONUS.


Diagnostic Testing and Research
Get support for Public Health Investigations, Basic Clinical Diagnostic Testing, General Bacteriology, Indentification of Blood-borne Parasites, Specialized PCR Diagnostics, and development of new protocols.
Training and Consultative Services
Get more information on sample collection and testing methods. Training can be provided for qualified personnel upon request. We also provided classes in Malaria Identification, and sample collection for surveillance of Influenza.



Virginia Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services
A comprehensive state laboratory that serve as reference laboratory responsible for investigation and/or referral of specimens. This centre is made up of several public health, veterinary, agriculture, food, and water testing laboratories.

DPDx - Laboratory Identification of Parasites of Public Health Concern
DPDx provides an online review of parasites and parasitic diseases, including an image library and a review of recommended procedures for collecting, shipping, processing, and examining biological specimens. They also provide free assistance in parasite identification from submitted digital images of specimens.
