Healthy Lifestyle Classes

These courses are held in the NHB Wellness Classroom - RM 1626A (Except as stated below). When calling the Puget Sound Military Appointing Center to schedule at (800) 404-4506, the classes are booked in the "Patient Education Clinic": All patients should check-in 15 minutes early in RM 1624.

Shipshape Program:
The official Navy weight management program that assists active duty and reserve service members, beneficiaries and government civilians with making healthy behavior changes in order to lose weight. The program consists of 8 sessions. (2 online sessions and 6 in-person group sessions that can be taken in any order). The program focuses on 3 important components for weight loss: mindset, nutrition, and physical activity. The goal is to equip participants with the skills and resources necessary to jump-start a healthier lifestyle.
Sessions are:  

    · Steps to Success (introductory online)

    · Fueling Your Body and Brain: Nutrition (in-person group)

    · Weight-loss: Tracking and Trends (in-person group)

    · Power Up! Fitness (in-person group)

    · Psychology of Weight Management: Mindful Eating  (in-person group)

    · Creative Supportive Environments (in-person group)

    · Stress Management and Relaxation (in-person group)

When: Mondays @ 1300, Tuesdays @ 0800 (Active Duty only in RM 1401D), Wednesday @ 0900, Thursdays @ 1700, Fridays @ 0700

Prevent T2 (National Diabetes Prevention Program
A CDC-recognized lifestyle change year-long program consisting of 22-24 classes designed for people who have prediabetes or are at risk for type 2 diabetes, but who do not already have diabetes.
When: Every Tuesday from 1-2 pm for 16 weeks and then monthly classes for 6-8 months @ 0900.

Diabetes Prevention:
Small Steps, Big Rewards: YOUR GAME PLAN to Prevent Type 2 Diabetes - a public health program which raises awareness and supports healthy lifestyle changes for adults who are at risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes.
When: Every 2nd and 4th Friday of each month from 10-11am

Heart Healthy Living:
Understand risk factors and prevention strategies for cardiovascular disease including cholesterol and BP guidelines, heart-healthy eating, physical activity, and coping skills.
When: 1st Wednesday of the month @ 1200 and 4th Saturday @ 0900 on even months (Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, etc.)
Where: Health Promotion Room 1401D - 1st Floor, past Subway and down the left passageway.
