We have combined our Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy, and Orthopedic/Podiatric Surgery teams into a single working group to provide the most efficient Musculoskeletal care possible.

Mission Statement: Direct access to musculoskeletal care for all warefighters (regardless of service) on the island of Okinawa that provides evaluation within 24 hours of injury to expedite return to duty.


  1. Provide consistent unit-level injury prevention training
  2. Provide consistent and coordinated post-injury rehabilitation
  3. Provide early direct access to a musculoskeletal specialist to identify, disposition, and treat MSK injuries when they happen


We ensure EARLY and DIRECT Access to Care via utilization of our walk-in clinics (SMART clinic) at two convenient locations.

Walk-in clinic for routine Sports Medicine (musculoskeletal) injuries sustained WITHIN THE LAST 90 DAYS. This includes any injury to a bone, joint, or muscle not requiring urgent care. NO CONSULT REQUIRED. All branches of service welcome! ACTIVE DUTY ONLY.​ ​

The SMART clinics are Tri-Service, Multi-Disciplinary clinics providing <24 hour direct access to specialty care for our Active Duty Warfighters. This Sports Medicine team consists of Athletic Trainers, Physical/Occupational Therapists, Sports Medicine Physicians, and Orthopedic Surgeons.
If required, urgent advanced imaging (i.e. MRI, CT scan) will be ordered.
Injuries requiring EMERGENT care should still be sent straight to the Emergency Department.
Injuries possible requiring URGENT Orthopedic Surgical evaluation should report to Orthopedic Fracture Clinic. Urgent MSK Questions? Call 080-3725-4617
Chronic Injuries (greater than 90 days): Patients are expected to visit their Primary Care Provider to determine need for referrals. One exception is that Physical Therapy clinic can book you for the next available appointment without referral. Call to inquire.
