CAPT Timothy Quast was born in Vallejo, CA and is a third generation Naval Officer.  Upon graduating from Tulane University  in 1988, CAPT Quast served over nine years as a Surface Warfare officer in the Pacific Fleet as well as an intelligence analyst at the Office of Naval Intelligence before attending the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) School of Medicine from 1998-2002.   At USUHS he served as the Academic Representative and was selected as a member into Alpha Omega Alpha, the medical fraternity of honor and achievement.
CAPT Quast completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Bethesda Naval Hospital, serving as the class president and earning "Intern of the Year" distinction.  He was subsequently selected to serve as the Chief of Residents for his first internist staff tour.  He completed a Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at Walter Reed-Bethesda's National Capital Consortium (2006-09) where he was a finalist for the Bailey K. Ashford award for research at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in 2009.  He also presented numerous poster and podium presentations at local and national meetings throughout his fellowship.
CAPT Quast’s first pulmonary staff tour was at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, from which he deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan in 2010.  In Kandahar he served as the ICU director during the Kandahar Offensive, overseeing the care of hundreds of coalition soldiers and Marines and achieving a 96% survival rate during this kinetic timeframe.
In 2012 he reported to U.S. Naval Hospital Guam and assumed duties as Internal Medicine department head.  In June 2013 he was selected to be the Director of Primary Care.  He also served as the Critical Care Committee chairman and organized a Mentorship Program for the wardroom.  During this period he was one of two critical care physicians on the island of Guam, serving both the local population and the Navy's highest acuity ICU.  In August 2015 he reported aboard Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) as a staff pulmonary intensivist.  In September 2015 he was selected as the U.S. Navy’s Internal Medicine Specialty Leader for 440 internists and internal medicine subspecialists.  From 2016-18 he also served as the Pulmonary-Critical Care and Sleep Department Chair for NMCSD. In 2017 Quast was recognized as a Master Clinician.  In July 2018 CAPT Quast reported to U.S. Naval Hospital Rota as the Executive Officer.

CAPT Quast's spouse, Sarah Jones, is a college, high school, and elementary school teacher, and writer of scholarly books and grants who has previously served as Ombudsman for both USS MOBILE BAY and ashore at US Naval Hospital Guam.  The Quast family also includes three daughters, Sophia (18), Helen (15), and Zoe (13).

CAPT Quast's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5), and the Navy Achievement Medal (5).
