Health Promotion

The mission of the Health and Wellness program is to promote health and fitness through awareness, programs and services offered to military personnel, family members, civilian and other eligible beneficiaries in the Community. Our regularly offered programs include Health Fitness Assessments, ShipShape, and Tobacco Cessation. Our events, programs and offerings are published monthly in our Balance Newsletter, which is distributed to all commands on Yokosuka Naval Base.

The Health Fitness Assessment (HFA) program is our most popular program. It's available to Active-duty members and their family members who are over 18. HFA evaluates overall health and fitness, and includes a BCA, fitness test, personal trainer, and medical consultation.

ShipShape is an 8-week program that reflects the current state of knowledge on weight loss. It is specifically designed to provide active-duty, retirees, family members and civilian personnel with basic information on nutrition, stress management, physical activity, and behavior modification techniques to lower and maintain an acceptable body weight within Navy and health standards.

The Tobacco Cessation program uses public health strategies and evidence based medicine to address nicotine addiction. The goals of the Tobacco program are to reduce initiation of tobacco use, increase tobacco cessation, and reduce environmental tobacco smoke.
