EAT: Food For Thought

Your brain is the most vital and complex organ in your body and determines how well you perform the most basic daily functions. Having great brain health could make the difference in remembering a spouse’s name at the next Hail and Farewell, forgetting an ingredient to your favorite dish, or feeding your dog a second dinner for the third time this week.

Did you know you could potentially avoid these silly brain blunders with the right diet? Studies show that consuming foods rich in omega-3’s (fatty acids), Vitamin E, and certain antioxidants could reduce the risk of dementia and cognitive impairment or decline. The science behind it is simple; these fuel-full foods protect your brain by reducing inflammation, reducing oxidative stress, and improving cognitive abilities! Salmon, blueberries, avocado, walnuts, and beans are a few examples of foods with brain boosting power.

Do you have an important mission or project coming up and worry about your brain fogging over? Try this recipe to help you think on your toes or even win a brain battle:

Blueberry Bowl

  • 1 serving Lowfat Greek Yogurt
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • ¼ cup walnuts
  • ½ banana
  • ½ cup Muesli or rolled oats

Simply take all of the ingredients from the list above and mix them in a bowl. Preparation is often the hardest part of eating well; save time by preparing this dish the night before or make a big batch for the whole week!
