SAN DIEGO - Naval Medical Center San Diego commemorated the first day of January by welcoming the first baby born in 2012.
Rhizelle Poniente was born Jan. 1, at 1:33 p.m. PST to retired Navy 1st Class Petty Officer Mike Poniente and his wife Marites. Rhizelle weighed 6 lb. 8 oz. and measured 20 inches in length.
Both mother and father are natives of San Diego. Baby Rhizelle is the couple's second child they also have a 5-year-old daughter named Victoria.
Baby and mother are doing fine.
