The classes in Health and Wellness will you identify the best eating plans to help you reach your nutritional goals through choosing and preparing healthy foods.

NUTRITION CLASSES

Comprehensive Weight Management Clinic

A unique and comprehensive once a month p​rogram that empowers you to lead a healthier life! If you are experiencing difficulty managing, or are looking for new ways to improve, your weight, the Comprehensive Weight Management Clinic may help.

Topics covered are:

  • Appropriate nutrition, eating and exercise patterns, medication options, behavioral & healthy lifestyle changes
  • Meet with a dietitian, exercise physiologist, medical provider and behavioral health specialist
  • Orlistat available for medically appropriate patients
  • Open to all active duty and beneficiaries
Eating for a Healthy Heart

This class will help you understand how food choices affect your heart health. Our course will explain how to develop an eating plan that may lower your risk of heart disease and other chronic diseases and may even lower the amount of medications you need.

Topics covered are:

  • Food choices to support a healthy heart
  • How to incorporate the right amount of physical activity into your life
  • Overcoming barriers to change

Healthy Cooking Class

Learn nutrition science and the culinary arts through cooking lessons.

Take a hands-on approach to learn cooking techniques and a wide variety of recipes for easy and inexpensive healthy meals.

Healthy Shopping Tour

Join this tour with a Registered Dietitian to learn how to select foods that are both nutritious and affordable at the local commissary.

Topics covered are:

  • Getting past the marketing hype to choose foods that will enhance your health
  • How to create easy, healthy meals while sticking to a budget
  • How to read labels

Healthy Weigh

Learn how to find your optimal health and lose weight safely through a healthy diet, regular exercise and practicing behavioral modifications. Make those changes for a healthier you!

Topics covered are:

  • Nutrition for weight loss and healthy style of living
  • Incorporating physical activity into your life
  • Overcoming lifestyle challenges for long-term good health

Nutrition and Mobility Training

Participants in this class will be instructed on various mobility techniques used to improve balance, flexibility, range of motion, and muscle strength by a Strength and Conditioning Coach. In addition, a Registered Dietitian will review basic concepts of a healthy diet and ways to adapt those recommendations to the demands of physical activity.

Topics covered are:

  • Setting goals to help promote healthy lifestyle behaviors through the use of proper nutrition and movement
  • Recognizing personal goal and limitations, physical and nutritional, that may influence activity and food choices
  • Demonstration of exercises to strengthen target body areas in order to prevent injury and aid healing

ShipShape

ShipShape is the official Navy weight management program designed to equip participants with the skills and resources necessary to jump start a healthier lifestyle.

This 8 week program focuses on five core essential components for weight loss and management: mindset, eat clean & often, hydration, physical fitness and recovery.

Let NMCSD's ShipShape program offers you a unique experience like never before. This program is designed to assist active duty and reserve military service members, beneficiaries, and government civilians with making healthy behavior changes in order to lose weight.

  • Nutrition for weight loss and enhanced performance
  • Physical fitness
  • Positive psychology and creating lasting behavior change
