Morale, Welfare and Recreation
The mission of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR)
Department at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) is to provide clean, safe
and wholesome leisure/recreation facilities and programs that maintain and
enhance the quality of life for staff and other eligible patrons. We support the
following tenant commands: Naval School of Health Science; Naval Care Support
Office; Naval Drug Screening Laboratory, and TRICARE Region Nine.

This facility offers a gymnasium for basketball and
volleyball, aerobics/fitness studio, cardiovascular equipment, weight training
room, two racquetball courts, two lighted tennis courts, 25 meter swimming pool,
lighted softball field, sand volleyball court with picnic area, co-ed sauna,
co-ed therapy whirlpool and men's and women's locker facilities. Also offered;
daily group exercise classes, master swim program, swimming lessons and ongoing
intramural sports program. |

Balboa Warrior Athlete
Program A program created for injured Military, Veterans, and
dependants to play adaptive & Paralympic sports, assists rehabilitation and
to "Renew Quality of Life". BWAP Activities Offers a variety of
opportunities to play sports, improve fitness levels and enhance overall health
and lifestyle. The program is designed to offer activities catered to the
inpidual as well as groups, therefore providing the next step in..."Renewing
Quality Of Life".
- Fitness & Recreation programs are designed to accommodate patrons with
limitations or disabilities.
- Sports are specifically designed for patrons with a variety of disabilities,
which can lead to opportunities for introduction to local, regional or worldwide
competition and organizations.

This facility is located in building
26-1b, and offers recreational opportunities for all Active Duty and NMCSD ID
card holders including a cyber cafe with 10 computers with internet access, 9
foot regulation billiards tables, Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 2 and 3, music room
with instruments, 25 seat movie theater, large screen television with living
room area and minor food sale. Activities and programs are offered which include
various tournaments and trips to Southern California events and
attractions. |

Fisher House I &
II Building 46

Office Hours Monday - Friday: 0900 - 1700 Fisher House II Naval Medical Center San Diego will open its
second Fisher House this fall 2008. This new "home away from home" will be eight
thousand square feet and consists of 12 bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, a common living
area, dinning room and kitchen with adjoining family room and will be ADA
compliant with an elevator. The entire house will be completely furnished with
beautifully appointed linens, state of the art appliances, electronics and
furniture. We very much look forward to assisting more families in need with the
opening of this new home. Grand opening date of Fisher House II is still to be
determined. Fisher House I The Zachary and Elizabeth
Fisher House I provides a "home away from home" for active and retired military
families of patients who have been admitted for medical care at the Naval
Medical Center San Diego.
The Fisher House is available to families who
are coping with the medical crisis of a loved one and have no local
accommodations. There is no nightly lodging fee and a maximum of (30) night's
stay.
The Fisher House is a comfortably furnished home with (8) rooms and
can accommodate up to (24) family members. The house features a common kitchen
(fully equipped), laundry room, living and dining rooms, and a large recreation
room. The two-story dwelling has one fully accessible handicapped suite and a
stair lift to assist guests with orthopedic challenges.
The Fisher House
is located at the Northeast end of the Naval Medical Center in Building 46
adjacent to the Chapel and Bldg 6. It is about a 3 minute walk from the main
