Healthcare Services Strategies (HSS)
Since 1987, the Healthcare Services Strategies Directorate has provided coordination of BUMED's healthcare services contracting program. We further provide medical treatment facilities (MTFs) with support of acquisition planning, requirements definition, evaluation of proposals, contract administration, and maintain and provide data on healthcare contract prices and contracted personnel. We regularly perform market research and keep pace with healthcare industry trends to ensure the best possible products and services are available to our customers.

Recent Initiatives

  • Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) Deployments – maintaining continuity of medical services as a result of ongoing deployments of military health care workers using contract health care workers
  • Post Deployment Health ReAssessment (PDHRA) – meeting physical and mental health care needs for those returning from deployments
  • Other Health Insurance (OHI) identification/verification – providing a solution to maximize revenue recovery for MTFs through identification and discovery of OHI for all non-active duty beneficiaries under age 65 seeking care at MTFs
  • Navy Blood Bank program – a DoD initiative among the Services to support blood drives to maintain adequate supplies of blood products
  • Locum Tenens health care services – providing solutions to short-term/temporary and immediate-need requirements for health care practitioners
