NML&PDC, located in Bethesda, Maryland, is the cornerstone of Navy Medicine’s professional training, leadership development, and education mission; maintaining collaborative relationships with more than 300 military and civilian higher learning institutions while annually supporting 3,000 Federal uniformed services, civilian, and allied foreign military members. We are an echelon-4 command, located in Bethesda, MD reporting to the Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED) and echelon-2 command through Navy Medicine Forces Support Command (NMFSC), echelon-3 command located in San Antonio, Texas. NML&PDC is located on the Navy Support Activity (NSA) Bethesda Campus. Our command is comprised of military and civilian staff and eight directorates: Administration, Officer Programs, Resources, Academic Programs, Leader Development, Visual Information Directorate, Tri-Service Optician School and Naval Postgraduate Dental School (NPDS).

Our history is long and storied. We changed our name and re-scoped our mission to support medical department training and education. Other names we carried were Navy Medicine Professional Development Center until July 31, 2020 and Navy Medicine Manpower Personnel Training and Education (NMPT&E) until January 2012.
