Our strength lies in a union of research, teaching, and ensuring the health and readiness of the warfighters we serve. Naval Medical Forces Pacific (NMFP) is Navy Medicine's regional command in the Western Pacific whose personnel provide care to more than 675,000 active duty personnel, retirees, and their family members as well as all other eligible beneficiaries. Primary, specialty and hospital-based care services are provided by NMFP personnel at military treatment facilities (MTF).

NMFP also maintains cognizance over Navy Medicine's research and     development enterprise with research centers and units located throughout the U.S., Asia Pacific, Africa, and South America. The region is headquartered at Naval Base San Diego, with MTFs and dental centers on the northern and southern West Coast, in Hawaii, Japan, and Guam.

HISTORY OF NAVY REGIONS

In August 2005, Navy Medicine implemented a realignment effort to better direct the collective shore-based assets of Navy Medicine to maintain readiness and deliver the highest quality care in the most cost effective manner. This effort resulted in the standing up of four Echelon 3 (flag level) commands—Navy Medicine West (NMW), Navy Medicine East, Navy Medicine National Capital Area, and Navy Medicine Support Command. Subordinate commands under NMW included all Navy MTFs and dental centers on the West Coast and in Hawaii, Japan, and Guam. In August 2015, NMW assumed cognizance over the U.S. Navy medical research and development enterprise, which is headquartered in the Silver Spring, Maryland, at the Naval Medical Research Center.

In December 2019, NMW becames Naval Medical Forces Pacific (NMFP) to reflect the command’s new readiness-focused mission. NMFP has oversight of 11 Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Commands on the West Coast and Pacific Rim that train, man, and equip medical forces, primarily in military treatment facilities, and continues to have oversight Navy Medicine's eight research labs that span the globe.
