For after-hours eye emergencies, go to the nearest emergency department. 

The Optometry department at Naval Health Clinic Patuxent River provides comprehensive primary vision care for active duty members only, no consults are needed. Dependents, retirees and other beneficiaries can receive care on a space-available basis. Our services include:

  • Comprehensive eye exams
  • Ordering and fitting of military-issue glasses (outside prescriptions less than 1 year old are accepted)
  • Contact lens evaluations and fittings for current or prior contact lens wearers
  • Refractive surgery screenings (for surgery to be performed at Andrews Air Force Base or Walter Reed National Military Medical Center) - active duty only
  • Diabetic eye exams
  • Glaucoma management
  • Completion of driver license renewal vision forms (bring all forms to the appointment)
  •  Acute care for red eyes, infections, injuries, etc., on a referral basis

What to Bring With You

When arriving for an exam, please be sure to bring all current spectacles. For contact lens updates, wear contact lenses to the appointment and bring all contact lens information (boxes, packages, prior prescription.)
