Captain Hatch’s first duty station was Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton from 1999 to 2003, where he served as extern program director, Optometry Department Head and lead Optometrist for the US Group East Timor – Navy Eye Team Deployment in 2001.  In 2003 Captain Hatch was selected for Duty Under Instruction, later awarded an MBA in Health Care Administration from the Zicklin School of Business, Baruch College where he was valedictorian.  From 2005 to 2008 Captain Hatch served as the Navy Public Health Program Manager within the US Army Public Health Command’s Tri-service Vision Conservation and Readiness Program where he was a key contributor in the military ballistic eye protection program and principal investigator in the Marksmanship Visual Acuity Study.  In 2007 he deployed as part of Combined Task Force (CTF) 40.3 in support of Partnership for the Americas with subsequent service at Naval Hospital Rota as the Department Head for Optometry.
 

Transferring to the Pacific Northeast in 2009, Captain Hatch served on the Naval Hospital Bremerton Medical Executive Committee where he directed ancillary services and later served as interim OIC for Branch Health Clinic Bangor.  He deployed as part of CTF 76 in support of Pacific Partnership 2011 and participated in Ulchi-Freedom Guardian 2012 as part of the US Forces Korea Main Joint Operations Center Medical Lead Team.  After completing a tour at Naval Hospital Yokosuka Japan, as Director for Health Care Business, he served as the Executive Officer, Naval Ophthalmic Support and Training Activity from 2016 to 2018.  He currently serves as the J37 over training, readiness, and exercises for Joint Task Force Civil Support at Fort Eustis, Virginia.

Captain Hatch completed Phase I Joint Professional Military Education through the Naval War College in 2010 and Phase II at the National War College in 2019, graduating with a Master of Science in National Security Strategy.  A Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry, he achieved Diplomate status in the Public Health and Environment Vision Section of the Academy in 2011.
 

Personal awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), the Navy Achievement Medal, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal (three awards).  He is a qualified Surface Warfare Medical Department Officer.  An active member of the American Academy of Optometry, the Armed Forces Optometric Society, and the American Optometric Association (AOA) of over 25 years, he has been honored as the Federal Service Junior Optometrist of the Year in 2008 and Senior Navy Optometrist of the Year in 2011 and 2017.  He filled appointments as the AOA National Chair for the Occupational and Environmental Vision Committee and served as a member of the Clinical and Practice Advancement Executive Committee.
