ABOUT US

Mission

Readiness through Quality Care. Anytime. Anywhere.

Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Guam is comprised predominantly of military members that support U.S. Naval Hospital Guam. The command supports overall Navy and Marine Corps readiness by training military command members to ensure they are ready to deploy and provide medical support to various operational Navy and Marine units deployed, ashore or at sea.

History

Since 1899, U.S. Naval Hospital (USNH) Guam has had a crucial presence on Guam, providing modern healthcare to military members, beneficiaries and the indigenous population of Guam.  Guam is a culturally vibrant and diverse area and is a strategic platform for the United States.  As a remote island, it provides ample opportunity for staff to take part in joint training efforts, operations and missions that include partnerships with sister services, local and federal agencies, and the greater community.  In April 2014, USNH Guam opened its doors to the current 265,000 square foot facility, designed to enhance healthcare delivery.  Aside from the day to day mission, staff provide combat and humanitarian medical care in support of Joint Operational Forces around the globe.  The hospital’s highly trained staff and improved facility has increased capabilities to support the warfighter.  Readiness is number one.  The hospital has a workforce of approximately 800 active duty, civilian GS and contract staff who provide medical and nursing care, ancillary services and administrative support.  USNH Guam’s location in Agana Heights along with being one of two accredited hospitals on the island, provides unique opportunities.  USNH Guam is the only military hospital to accept direct trauma from the community.  Because of this, and a sharing agreement with our local Veteran’s Clinic, USNH Guam has one of the highest acuity emergency rooms and intensive care units in the Navy.  Staff also train with sister services and local medical providers for contingency operations, such as infectious disease outbreak or mass casualty situations.
