NMCSD Hosts NEC Roadshow

19 April 2024

From Petty Officer 2nd Class Jacob Woitzel

Naval Medical Center San Diego hosted a Navy Enlisted Classifications roadshow for Sailors assigned to Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command San Diego in the hospital’s auditorium, Apr. 18, 2024.

The NEC roadshow featured leaders from across the Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery and the Independent Duty Corpsman NEC community to share experiences, knowledge, and answer questions from interested Sailors.

“We want to open up a venue where people can speak openly and honestly about the challenges they face with trying to apply for a ‘C’ School package and asking questions about what these jobs do,” said Master Chief Hospital Corpsman Carlos Rodriguez, BUMED's Independent Duty Corpsman program manager. “You get a better connection with the command and the Sailors of Navy Medicine directly vice in an indirect manner.”

Speakers included members from the Submarine, Dive Medicine Technician, and Surface IDC communities to shed light on their jobs and unique roles they play in Navy Medicine to keep the warfighter ready.

“It’s a conversation that should definitely continue day-to-day, and shouldn’t just stop at these events,” said Rodriguez. “We want to create the environment for open speech, open questioning, and answer with an understanding of what really matters to the individuals at this command, and how we can better help them advance within Navy Medicine.”

NMCSD is hosting an NEC fair April 30, 2024, following the roadshow to provide education and encourage Sailors to submit packages for different “C” Schools that interest them.
