FORT DETRICK, Md. – Subject matter experts (SMEs) from across Navy Medicine assembled at NMRLC Detachment Fort Detrick to conduct an Authorized Medical Allowance List (AMAL) review in support of large deck amphibious ships, Sept. 22-25.

This collaborative effort brought together logistics professionals, Senior Enlisted Hospital Corpsman, Force Surgeons, Fleet Surgical Teams, as well as other clinical leaders across the Navy including representation from, Fleet Forces Command, Naval Surface Force Pacific, Naval Surface Force Atlantic, U.S. Pacific Fleet, and Defense Health Agency, to evaluate and validate medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, and consumables required to sustain operational medical readiness aboard amphibious assault platforms.

The review focused on aligning AMALs with Required Operational Capability (ROC) and Projected Operating Environment (POE) to current fleet requirements, updated clinical standards of care, and lessons learned from recent operations. By refining medical allowances, the working group ensured that shipboard medical departments remain equipped to provide comprehensive healthcare services to Sailors and Marines during deployment and combat operations.

The AMAL review also strengthened collaboration between Navy Medicine, operational commanders, and supporting agencies. This cross-community engagement fosters a unified approach to standardization, supply chain resiliency, and readiness across the fleet.
