Health Facility Planning & Project Officers (HFPPO) serve as the Navy Surgeon General's subject matter experts and on issues relating to healthcare facility planning, programming and military construction (MILCON) execution.

HFPPOs Deliver:
  • Project management and end user representation throughout the health facility lifecycle from initial planning of MILCONs to large modernization projects of existing facilities.
  • Coordination between Defense Health Agency, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery Commands, Naval Facility Engineering Command, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, and civilian design, construction, and equipment contractors.
  • Preparation and review of MILCON supporting documentation and representation of Navy Medicine interests on medical facility studies and design projects.
  • Subject matter expertise to construction team on medical facility operations and medical equipment requirements impacting construction.
  • Navy Medicine representation to the final inspection and acceptance process for newly constructed facility spaces.
  • Coordination of procurement, storage, and installation of all collateral equipment necessary to make new facilities fully mission capable.
  • Consultative support to commands on the operational transition planning into new facilities.
Military and civilian personnel involved with the Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton replacement hospital construction project break ground to officially begin construction on the facility. The new 500,000-square foot, multi-level facility will replace the current 37-year old hospital. The project is the largest American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 project awarded in the Department of the Navy.
