Medical Laboratory Science

Medical Laboratory Scientists (MLS) lead the Navy’s clinical laboratory operations worldwide, manage replenishment of operational blood supply and guide the safe administration of blood products in DoD Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs) and forward deployed units.

MLSs manage the Nation’s largest laboratory technician training pipeline, a critically understaffed specialty in health systems throughout the United States.

MLSs enforce clinical lab regulatory compliance to ensure quality of care is provided in support of positive patient care outcomes.

MLSs orchestrate a broad range of functions in lab/healthcare informatics, biomedical equipment operations, lab accreditation, diagnostic quality and patient advocacy, fiscal budgets/contracts, & management of critical resources, e.g. personnel, equipment, supplies.
