Capt. James J. Driscoll, Commanding Officer

    CAPT James Driscoll in a native of Shelby, OH and enlisted in the United States Navy and reported to boot camp at Naval Training Center Great Lakes on 26 April 1993 as a Seaman Recruit.  After boot camp he reported to Hospital Corps School Great Lakes and subsequently reported to duty stations at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Naval Hospital Guantanamo Bay and Naval Health Clinic Corpus Christi. At Corpus Christi he was selected for the Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program (MECP).    
 
     CAPT Driscoll earned his Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree from Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi in May 2002 and was commissioned to the rank of Ensign.  He reported to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth where he worked on an orthopedic    post-surgical ward and then the Intensive Care Unit.  As a critical care nurse CAPT Driscoll deployed with Naval Medical Expeditionary Unit-Portsmouth to Kuwait and then forward deployed to Balad, Iraq to assist the Air Force hospital with an increase in casualties. 
 
     After perioperative training, CAPT Driscoll reported to Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune to work in the main operating room.  Shortly after orientation he worked as a case manager at Camp Geiger helping young Marines stay in the Marine Corps.  He also deployed with Combat Logistics Battalion-8 to Ar Ramadi, Iraq with a Forward Resuscitative Surgical Suite (FRSS).  Being the sole perioperative nurse on a team of 7, he also served as the back-up critical care nurse.  He earned his Fleet Marine Force (FMF) pin for medical personnel. 
 
     In 2010, CAPT Driscoll reported to Fleet Surgical Team-8 (FST) as the perioperative nurse.  During this tour he embarked with the FST onboard the USS Bataan for a surge deployment on a 2 week notice.  This float with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit turned into a 320 day deployment, the longest deployment float for a navy ship since Vietnam.  During this deployment he earned his Surface Warfare Medical Department pin. 
 
     Upon completion of the tour CAPT Driscoll reported to Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune where he was appointed as the acting Department Head (DH) due to deployment of current the Department Head.  He served as DH for 14 months and during this tour he earned his Masters of Science in Nursing degree with a concentration in Nursing Management and Organizational Leadership from American Sentinel University in Aurora, Colorado. Upon completion of his tour at Camp Lejeune CAPT Driscoll reported to Naval Health Clinic Cherry Point in September 2014 and was the Department Head of Surgical Services. 
 
     In October 2018 CAPT Driscoll reported to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth as the Department Head of Operative Support Services and then the Associate Director, Surgical Services.  In May 2023 CAPT Driscoll reported to NMRTC Cherry Point as the Executive Officer.  In January 2025 CAPT Driscoll assumed command of NMRTC Cherry Point.
 
     CAPT Driscoll’s is a qualified Fleet Marine Force and Surface Warfare Medical Department Officer.  His military awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (4th award), Navy Achievement Medal (6th award), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Good Conduct Award (3rd award), National Defense Service Medal(2nd award), Iraqi Campaign Medal with EGA,  Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, Humanitarian Service Medal (2nd award), Sea Service Ribbon (2nd award), Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd award), and Sharp Shooter Pistol. 
 
     CAPT Driscoll currently resides in Stella, NC with his wife Edy.  CAPT Driscoll and Edy have six adult children. 

CAPT Carol M. Ellsworth, Executive Officer

Captain Carol Ellsworth, a native of Woodlawn, Illinois, attended Saginaw Valley State University in Saginaw, Michigan, where she graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She attended Duke University and graduated in 2011 with a Master of Science in Nursing, double majoring as a Family Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist (gerontology). She is Board Certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).

In 2003, she accepted a direct commission into the United States Navy, attending Officer Indoctrination School in Newport, RI. Her first assignment was at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune, NC. She served as a staff nurse on the Labor and Delivery unit and the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit. In 2006, she reported to United States Naval Hospital, Okinawa, Japan.

She served as Charge Nurse on the Labor and Delivery Unit, and then as Division Officer at the Lester Family Medicine Clinic. At the end of her tour in Okinawa, she was accepted into the DUINS program for full-time out service training, attending Duke University. Upon completion of her program in 2011, she was assigned to Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune, where she served as Division Officer in the Family Medicine and Internal Medicine Clinics. In 2015, she reported to Naval Health Clinic Cherry Point, where she served as the Department Head for Medical Home Port, managing care and services for 15,000 beneficiaries. In 2019, she received orders to Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command (NMRTC), Camp Lejeune where she served as the Director for Medical Services, providing operational level management for the United States Navy’s only Level III Trauma Center, administration of three patient-centered medical homes with over 30,000 enrolled beneficiaries, and seven specialty clinics.

Captain Ellsworth received orders to Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Unit, Sasebo, Japan in 2022 and served as the Officer-in-Charge until May 2025, in proud support of Forward Deployed Naval Forces with Commander, Task Force (CTF) 76/3, Expeditionary Strike Group Seven, and U.S. Fleet Activities Sasebo with 62 tenet commands and 7,400 beneficiaries. She assumed duties as Executive Officer, Naval Health Clinic Cherry Point in late June, 2025.

Captain Ellsworth has served as a staff nurse for Fleet Hospital Camp Lejeune in 2003, as Senior Medical Officer for the USNS Carson City, Gulf of Guinea Africa Partnership Station deployment in 2019, and served as the Executive Officer for Expeditionary Medical Facility-Kilo, NMRTC Camp Lejeune from 2020-2022.

Captain Ellsworth is a graduate of Command and Staff College, Marine Corps University. She is active in professional organizations as a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nurses (AAACN), and the American Academy of Diabetes Educators (AADE). She served as an advisor for the
Clinical Nurse Specialist Advisory Board (CNSAB), has served as a Strategic Goal Team member for the Nurse Corps Goal Team, and has been an assistant researcher and co-author for the Tri-service research project, Preventing Obesity in Military Communities (POMC).

Her personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2 Gold Stars), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 Gold Stars), and various other unit and campaign awards.

HMCM (SW) Cory J. Butler, Clinic Senior Enlisted Leader

Master Chief Cory Butler, a native of Framingham, Massachusetts, embarked on his Navy career in December 1997. Following his completion of recruit training, he attended Corpsman A School in Great Lakes, Illinois, and Field Medical Service School at Camp Pendleton, California.
 
Master Chief Butler’s initial assignment took him to the Naval Branch Health Clinic in Atsugi, Japan. Over the years, he served in various roles and locations, including Naval Hospital Corpus Christi, Texas, and the 1st Force Service Support Group (FSSG), where he supported Operation Iraqi Freedom. He furthered his   expertise at the Naval School of Health Sciences, successfully completing Independent Duty Hospital Corpsman C School.
 
As an Independent Duty Corpsman (IDC), Master Chief Butler served aboard the USS JOHN L. HALL (FFG-32) out of Mayport, Florida, and later joined the Afloat Training Group Middle Pacific, in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. His career continued with assignments at JPAC/DPAA in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Naval Hospital Jacksonville, Florida, and aboard the USS HUE CITY (CG-66) out of Mayport, Florida and USS NEW YORK (LPD-21), based in Norfolk, Virginia. He also served at Afloat Training Group Norfolk, Virginia.
 
A graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy, Master Chief Butler assumed his current role as Command Senior Enlisted Leader at NMRTC Cherry Point in September 2024. His military decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, alongside various unit and campaign awards.
