Captain Tammy E. Servies is a native of Hammond, Indiana and graduated from the University of Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology in 1998. She was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy in May of 1999 and graduated from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) with a Doctor of Medicine degree in 2003. She completed her internship in General Surgery at Naval Medical Center San Diego in 2004 and went on to complete Flight Surgery training in Pensacola, Florida in July of 2005. In 2013, she completed a residency in Public Health and General Preventive Medicine earning a Master of Public Health from USUHS. In 2005, she reported to Naval Air Station Fallon, Nevada, as the base flight surgeon and Division Officer for Aviation Medicine. In 2009, she joined Patrol Squadron 46 as Aviation Medicine Department Head for her second flight surgery tour, deploying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation New Dawn. Following residency completion, she served as Director of Threat Assessment at Navy Environmental and Preventive Medicine Unit SIX at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii. There, she led an international, joint service team planning 100 medical engagements for Pacific Partnership in four countries in 2014 and 2015 and participated in exercises Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training Cambodia and Cobra Gold Thailand. She then served as Associate Program Director for the General Preventive Medicine Residency at USUHS. There, she taught 11 courses, secured USUHS medical student participation in Pacific Partnership, and served as a track chair for the 2018 Asia Pacific Military Health Exchange in Xi’an, China. In 2019, she served as Officer in Charge of Navy Environmental and Preventive Medicine Unit SEVEN in Rota, Spain, where her team was integral in the Navy’s fight against COVID-19 in Europe and Africa. Her team also provided critical health and safety recommendations for evacuee camp development at Naval Station Rota in support of Operation Allies Refuge. Her subsequent tour was as Executive Officer for Naval Medical Research Unit INDOPACIFIC, where her team conducted disease surveillance and infectious disease research to ensure the health of troops deployed to the USINDOPACOM Area of Responsibility. In 2024, Capt. Servies reported to Naval Station Guantanamo Bay Cuba as the Director of U.S. Naval Hospital Guantanamo Bay, Commanding Officer of the U.S. Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command, and Commander of the Joint Medical Group for Joint Task Force Guantanamo. Her awards include: Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Army Commendation Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards). She is a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine, an Associate Professor at USUHS, and a lifetime member of the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States.
